2300 CLASS UPDATE

Sometime ago we were asked why is the 2300 class taking so long. There are a number of factors but by far the most significant was our reply “This is the biggest project we have undertaken”. Julius Sumner Miller once said “Why is it so”?

It is so because in putting together the 2300 project we carried out the most intricate of research on their background. Most modellers will know that the 2300 class were the result of the Maxi overhaul project which saw these locos being fitted with a turbo charger and & the Maxi cab modifications to the 1550 / 2400 / 2450 & 2470 class locomotives from 1997.

It then became a natural progression to include these earlier models in our project along with the evolution of some 2300 class locos to the Western Australian DFZ Class making a total of 18 versions.

Whilst we started with the grand idea of producing all of these versions we have had to resist making all due to the high tooling cost.

So our 2300 class model reproduces the 4 main variations to the 2300 class.

At the same we are delighted to advise that we will be releasing 5 versions of the 2400 / 2450 & 2470 class covering high & low nose.

As we said to numerous people in the industry & customers, this was a very obvious extension of the 2300 class project. Tooling is currently being completed and we are expecting to provide samples at the Brisbane Exhibition in May. Production will be in two stages with the 2300 class being first of the rank with an expectation of a July/August delivery. This will be followed very closely by the 2400 class with a September/October delivery. There is some doubt as to whether we will go ahead with the DFZ models. A decision will be made shortly on their inclusion with the 2400 series loco production run.

Recently we advised that there would be some price changes to the 2300 class including a new pre delivery, paid in full price. We have delayed announcing these whilst we held some extensive negotiations with our manufacturer. These were very successful and the price increase has been kept to a minimum. At the same time Southern Rail has also absorbed the significant fall in the Australian $ by reducing our margin to compensate. This has led to a very small increase, totally offset by the inclusion of a non-sound decoder that works for DC & DCC. Another first in an Australian Loco by Southern Rail.

Here are the changes to the 2300 order form including pricing

The price has increased from $325.00 single pack to $369.00
The price has increased from $625.00 twin pack to $738.00
All models now come fitted with an ESU LOK PILOT STANDARD DC/DCCnon sound decoder as standard at no extra cost
Pack Q230 – The loco 2355 has been changed to Broncos series 1 mesh grill 2309
Pack Q232 – the loco has been changed to Broncos/Arizon logo Series 2 Vertical grill #2355
The fully paid pre delivery price (subject to withdrawal without notice) is:
- Single loco pack $329.00
- Twin loco pack $625.00

‘L’ CLASS UPDATE

The tooling for the L class is proceeding well with the factory advising that they should be completed for test shots around the middle of May. Decoration samples should be available early July and if all is Ok we will go to production with an end of August shipping date. Just in time for Liverpool exhibition. Decoration files are almost complete & will be forwarded to China this week. Here are the preliminary decorations.

Unfortunately, we were unable to hold the price on the L Class as the costing has significantly changed from the manufacturer as well as the fall in the Australian $ to the US$.

The new pricing is:

$375.00 no sound / $ 495.00 with sound
