26th – 27th Australia Day Weekend News Release

26 – 28TH JANUARY 2013 – NEW PROJECT ANNOUNCEMENTS

During the week we became aware that one of the magazines we advertise in has accidently used our March/ April advertisement in their January/ February edition. Not life threatening, just letting the cat out of the bag early. Since Motive Powergreat magazine by the way – already has their “on line” version up & running we reckoned it was a necessity and an opportunity to make the release generally known ourselves. So here it is:

QLD ‘ALY’ set for release at Brisbane Exhibition

We are pleased to advise that our next model for release in our Queensland Rail series is the ‘ALY’ Steel Louvered Vans. Some 500 of these 4 wheelers were built between 1964 & 1971. All were out of general traffic by 1991, their short lives due to the introduction of bogie wagons at around this time. Many became used as storage sheds & can still be seen around the country side in this capacity today.

The Southern Rail model will be in HO scale 12mm gauge with only a limited amount of models being made in 16.5mm gauge. The model will feature sliding doors, detailed deck, and as per our VAK/VGK hoppers, will be fitted with genuine Kadee, scale knuckle whisper couplers and AUS 100 wheels.

The anticipated price for a four car pack is $180.00 and Southern Rail is likely to build as many as 10 different packs covering versions, coding and various paint schemes. Some unique wagons will be available.

They will be released at the Brisbane Model Railway Exhibition – May 4th & 5th – Doomben Race Course.

The “ALY” will be followed by

QLD ‘OLO” Rail Tank Wagons

Quite a number of NSW NTAF rail tank cars found their way to Queensland either directly or in the case of BP wagons via WA. These wagons consisted of three dome & two dome round versions as well as 3 dome round offset. In conjunction with our release of some unannounced NSW RTC’s, Southern Rail will be producing the Queensland ‘OTO’ versions. These were excess wagons drawn from oil Companies Mobil, Ampol (Total), BP and Shell.

Southern Rail will produce these models as they entered Qld service with type 29 bogies in HO scale 12mm gauge & a limited number in 16.5mm gauge. They will also be produced as supplied to Qld or as they left NSW, in both gauges. Some tooling changes are under way to accommodate the scale head whisker coupler & narrow gauge bogie. As previously advised, the price of all future production runs of tank cars will be $215.00 for a three car pack. More details and order forms will be available at the Brisbane Exhibition in May.

 2300/DFZ

The 2300/DFZ class is proceeding along its projected course. The schedule is very tight to release at Ipswich later in the year but that is still our focus & intention. It is likely between now & then that a 2300 or two will have the Aurizon name painted on as has already happened in WA with the DFZ version. We have factored these into the production run & expect to add them to the order form in due course.

2000 Class Rail Motor

We are also delighted to again confirm our intention to produce the QLD 2000 class railmotors as introduced and with the high headlight version. Some fine detail work is continuing on the drawings. The anticipated release date is May 2014 but this will be firmed up after some current major projects are finalised.

Unfortunately due to the unique shape of the side skirts this model will only be produced in HO scale – 12mm gauge

1st RUN NSW RAIL TAN CARS

Despite being second into the market with some of these models, this release has been an outstanding success due to the quality and detail (despite comments from so called experts) and the sell through has been sensational. In just a few short weeks

SET No: NTAF2

Most other packs & singles are into the last or second last carton. Be quick to order these at the old price before being sold out.

VIC/SA Rail Tank Cars

We have been busily finalizing production of our next round of RAIL TANK CARS. Due to some additional tooling requirements the project is slightly behind schedule. As much as we would like to say March it now looks like April at earliest (allowing for Chinese New Year wiping out most of February).

The 401 – 411 series tank cars – two dome & single dome – listed on our order form as VSA8 & VSA9 were originally built for COR by Clyde Engineering in 1954 -1955. Although there are some difference between Clyde built & Tulloch built wagons they are not significant in the overall scheme of the thousands of variations that can be found on this series of wagons.

Southern Rail is pleased to announce two new packs in the Victorian series:

VSA 12 – 3 car set, 2 x 2 dome + 1 x 1 dome decorated for COR 1954 – 1959

VSA 13 – 3 car set, 2 x 2 dome + 1 x 1 dome decorated for COR 1954 – 1959

Original classification:  No 401 – 411 OIL TANK

The price on these will be held at $189.00 until 28th February for fully paid orders. In line with our advertised new price structure for new production runs of tank cars the price will increase from 1st March to $215.00 for a 3 car set.

Simply e-mail your order through using the new codes advising credit card details. Add $15.00 postage for 1 set $18.00 for two sets

Xplorer/ Endeavours

Again, due to some last minute tooling changes required for the XPL11 “Broken Hill” set the delivery date has been pushed out until April as well. The Broken Hill Set is indeed a converted Endeavour set with a modified front end.

SPECIAL NOTE: This model has been designed with a working SCHARFENBERG coupler. However to be functional, it extends further foward than the coupling box cover as used on the Broken Hill set. This means that the two can not be used at the same time. You either have the coupler working or remove it if you want to run the model with the Couple Box Cover showing. Since the Broken Hil set usually runs as a three car set this should not create an issue with modellers

The after delivery price will rise to – 2 car set $450.00 – 3 car set $585.00. Decoration for the Xplorers & Endeavours is illustrated below

Not a lot of news here. We are still in the middle of corrections to the drawings.
