LIVERPOOL EXHIBITION

We will be attending the Sydney Model Railway Exhibition at the Whitlam Centre this coming long weekend 4^th – 6^th October, Whitlam Leisure Centre , Memorial Avenue, Liverpool from 9am.

We are hoping to have some stock of the new Trackside structures for sale along with samples of the V/locity & NPRY cement Hoppers. We will have some stock of our new tank cars, and some great show specials on the U Boats & NDHF Concrete Sleeper Wagons  and maybe an Xplorer & Endeavour or two.

V/locity Update

We were delighted to have painted running samples of the V/locities at Caulfield Exhibition. Although some minor corrections were required the painted samples were simply stunning and looked a million dollars.

We are also delighted to advise that production commenced some weeks back and the factory has reconfirmed a shipping date of 19^th October. This will mean a November delivery to customers.

NPRY Cement Hoppers Update

Some painted samples arrived for the Caulfield Exhibition but the main decoration samples arrived the week after. Some corrections were required i.e. the cover hatches were painted the wrong colours; some of the underbody detail was not picked out in white correctly. Additionally, we decided to lighten the body colour of the weathered versions. Overall we were pleased with the result.

Unfortunately we were not happy with some aspects of the tooling including the centre join amongst other things. We have asked for this to be reduced to the same size as the other weld lines. We also thought the stainless steel metal etch walkways could be improved in detail and these have been re-made.

Unfortunately, whilst production has commenced the whole process has been by necessity, slowed down by the tooling corrections. The factory has given us a target shipping date of 26^th November so all being well we should get the models to customers right on Christmas.

Sometimes delays are beyond our level of control. This is the majority of delays as many of you would know.

At other times, the delays are due to the corrections we make to ensure that Southern Rail presents our customers with the best possible model, accurate in detail and faithful to the prototype. Such as the case with the NPRY.

Again, as in similar situations we apologise that the model is not being delivered to our anticipated schedule but we would rather a late delivered accurate model, than an incorrect, on time model.

The Pre delivery price of $215.00 ends 4pm on the 6^th October 2014

VICTORIAN & SOUTH AUSTRALIAN TANK CARS.

These have been an outstanding success with all but one or two models being sold out including the three South Australian packs. The good news is we have arranged for a top up 2^nd order of these which will ship with the NPRY Cement Hoppers on 26^th November.

Anyone who missed out on getting VSA 8 & VSA 9, the one & two dome 1960’s BP Tank Cars or indeed any of the other versions is asked to complete the current order form and reserve your models now.

Southern Rail is delighted to welcome Perth Hobby Centre to our team of premium Retailers. As always, the criteria for becoming a Southern Rail Premium Retailer is first and formost CUSTOMER SERVICE.

James Bowler has owned Perth Hobby Centre for the last 35 years. The shop was previously located in Perth’s Central Business District but due to the premises being demolished and the lack of suitable city space, James has now relocated the business to unit 3 / 43 Hutton Street, Osborne Park. Although a multi hobby store, model train customers are very well looked after by Barry Bryant, Perth Hobbies senior railway expert. Barry has been with James for 20 years and models in ‘N’ gauge but loves all things railway related and has been modelling trains for 35 years.

Perth Hobbies are currently stocking the VSA tank cars and has forward orders for DFZ & ‘L’ Class locos. Barry will be happy to look after all your Southern Rail modelling needs.

2300 Class / DFZ Class Locomotive Update

This is by far the most complicated project we have undertaken with seven variations of the 2300 class and three variations of the DFZ class. This involves 4 long hoods, 4 cab styles, 2 short hoods & 2 chassis.  We have not wanted to push the factory unduly especially since they have been trying very hard to clear our back log of projects.

We have however advised them that we are unhappy to miss our Ipswich show release in a couple of weeks’ time. Accordingly, we have now re-worked through the project schedule with the factory and come up with a very achievable schedule, with tooling completed by the end of December and a shipping date to Oz of 23^rd March 2015 in plenty of time for a Brisbane Show release. We will continue to update via the blog as our benchmarks are achieved.

Ampol / Freight Aus. / Atlantic & Qld ‘OLO’ Rail Tank Cars Updates.

These projects are now also running behind schedule. Our previously advised release date for the Ampol, FA & Atlantic tank cars was to be expected towards the end of this year. We were also hoping that the OLO’s would make the 2014 Ipswich October Exhibition. These are now being rescheduled for release in early 2015. We will update these two projects as soon as the scheduling is concluded.
